Super Simple Henna Recipe

Super Simple Henna Recipe

The Gopi Henna Recipe

Quick Summary

  1. Use Rajastani BAQ triple sifted Henna Powder.
  2. Mix the ingredients until the paste is thick, like mashed potatoes.
  3. Let the paste rest for proper dye release.
  4. Cone the paste once dye release is complete.
  5. Use for smooth natural henna body art.

This batch makes about 20 medium-sized cones. You can cut the recipe in half, or even into fourths, for a smaller personal batch.

Ingredients List:

100 gms Rajastani Henna Powder

2 tablespoons essential oil
lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree, or cajeput can be used in any combination or by itself

1/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup purified water
or to consistency of thick mashed potatoes

Use Quality Henna Powder:

This recipe uses Rajastani BAQ triple sifted Henna Powder.

For body art, always use BAQ, which means Body Art Quality. Triple sifted powder helps create a smoother paste with fewer fibers, better cone flow, and cleaner designs.

Avoid henna powders meant for hair. These are often denser, rougher, and may contain other herbs. If the powder looks brown, it is most likely for hair.

Rajastani vs. Jamila Henna:

Rajastani henna is more stringy, which is great for draping lines and delicate designs.

Jamila henna is creamier, which is ideal for dots and thicker design elements.

This recipe uses Rajastani henna powder.

Allow for Dye Release:

Dye release is the resting time needed for the natural henna dye, called lawsone, to activate in the paste.

Dye release time depends on the powder, the liquid, and the temperature. Warmer temperatures speed up dye release. Cooler temperatures slow it down.

Water Mix

Rajastani = 6–12 hours
Jamila = 12–24 hours

Lemon Juice Mix

Rajastani = 12–24 hours
Jamila = 24–48 hours

Recipe Notes

1. Mix until smooth and thick, similar to mashed potatoes.

2. Let the paste rest according to the dye release time for your powder, liquid, and room temperature.

3. Once dye release is complete, cone the paste and use for natural henna body art.

    Hi! How much of henna powder and other ingredients (water, sugar, lemon juice) should I take to make a paste for the hair? And can I freeze the leftovers for later use?
